Unwind after a long day with a glass of red wine with PAFA! Each week a curator, educator, or other Museum staff member will raise a glass with you and lead an informal discussion about the art world, interesting stories from PAFA’s past, and more.
This Thursday curator of Historical American Art, Anna Marley, is joined by Art Historian Amy Henderson to explore life at home in Philadelphia in the era of Yellow Fever.
They will discuss the social and dining practices enjoyed by some of the city’s elite families at their city and country houses (especially those along the Schuylkill and Delaware Rivers); as well as the herculean efforts of Philadelphia citizens like AME Bishop Richard Allen to save the most vulnerable populations of the city, and how life in this period was profoundly impacted by epidemics.
