Kate Samworth is an artist and award winning illustrator of several books, including Aviary Wonders Inc., and Why Fish Don't Exist. Her work explores the spiritual questions raised by observing nature and addresses the existential anxieties expressed in folklore and fairy tales. She creates highly detailed images of imaginary places in various media, including scratchboard engraving and oil painting. She has exhibited across the country and abroad and is represented by Le Mieux Gallery in New Orleans, LA and RJD Gallery in Romeo, MI. Her work has been published in several magazines, including Orion, High Country News, and Illustoria. Samworth earned a BFA from PAFA. She teaches illustration in the BFA/certificate program and also through the department of continuing education.
