PAFA Welcomes New Board of Trustee Members

PHILADELPHIA (July 7, 2014) – The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) is pleased to welcome four new resident trustees, as well as two new national trustees to its board of trustees. The new members of the board were elected during PAFA’s June Board Meeting.

PAFA Board Chair Kevin F. Donohoe says: “We are thrilled to welcome these outstanding individuals to PAFA’s board of trustees. Their leadership and scope of knowledge will be essential to PAFA’s continued success in fulfilling its mission of promoting the transformative power of art and art making.”

The new resident trustees are:

ROBERT FRIEDMAN is Chair of the Private Client Services Group, Cozen O’Connor. Mr. Friedman is Past Chair of the Probate and Trust Law Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association, and has served as Chair of several of its committees. He has also served as a member of the Executive Council of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the PA Bar Association. Mr. Friedman currently serves as a board member of Natural Lands Trust, and The Rosenbach of the Free Library of Philadelphia.

SUSAN HENDRICKSON is Partner at Dechert LLP and heads the firm’s health care group. Ms. Hendrickson specializes in health industry law; specifically, transactional and regulatory matters related to mergers and acquisitions between companies that are involved in the healthcare sector. Ms. Hendrickson serves on the board of the Hudson Opera House in Hudson, NY, and is also active on PAFA’s Corporate Relations Committee.

JONATHAN NEWMAN is CEO and Chairman of Newman Wine. He is former Chairman of the PA Liquor Control Board. Mr. Newman serves as Chairman of the PA Harness Racing Commission, and serves on the board of Visit Philadelphia™. He previously served as a member of the Governor’s Privatization and Innovation task force, and was also a member of the PA Horse Racing Thoroughbred Commission. He is past Chairman of the PA Board of Law Examiners, the Disciplinary Board of PA Lawyers, and the Attorney General’s Policy Council on Violence Prevention. In 2003, he was named Wine Enthusiast’s “Man of the Year.”

RICHARD SNOWDEN is Owner and President of Bowman Properties, as well as President of the Cotiga Development Company in Williamson, WV. Mr. Snowden serves as a board member at The Library Company of Philadelphia, Andalusia, and The Chestnut Hill Historical Society. He is the former Chair of The Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia, and former President of the Philadelphia Charity Ball. He is also active on PAFA’s Collections Committee.

The new national trustees are:

VALENTINO D. CARLOTTI is a Partner and Head of the Securities Division Institutional Client Group at Goldman, Sachs & Co. Mr. Carlotti joined Goldman Sachs in 1994 and has served in various positions. Prior to assuming his current role, Mr. Carlotti served as President of the Goldman Sachs Brazil Bank, managing the Sao Paulo office firmwide from 2007 to 2012. He serves on the Leadership Committee of the Lincoln Center Corporate Fund and is a board member of American Ballet Theatre, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Studio Museum in Harlem, Guild Hall, Prep for Prep, The Boys Club of New York, The Carter Burden Center for the Aging, and the Board of Governors of the Yale University Alumni Association. 

RO KING is an editor, author and photographer after a career in marketing consulting. Ms. King was Founding Partner of Quaero, as well as Senior Vice President, Retail Marketing and Analysis at Signet Bank, now Wells Fargo. She served as Chairman of the Indonesian Heritage Society and publication editor at SOKOLA Foundation. As a board member of the Menokin Foundation in Virginia, Ms. King leads the Program Committee and serves on the Finance and Development Committees. She participates on the Global Advisory Council at the Darden School at UVA. A recent graduate of L'Ecole du Vin de Changins, Ms. King is also active on PAFA’s Bacchanal Committee.
