Volunteer at PAFA

A museum guide gestures at a painting of a fox in the snow. Visitors listen attentively. Two other landscape paintings are displayed on the wall.

Docents are at the heart of PAFA’s mission to connect people with American art. Through leading tours, facilitating conversations, and encouraging close looking, docents help visitors engage more deeply with the museum’s collection and exhibitions.

Whether working with school groups, adults, or community audiences, PAFA docents create welcoming, inclusive spaces for dialogue and discovery. No prior teaching experience is required—just curiosity, a willingness to learn, and an interest in working with people. Comprehensive training and ongoing learning opportunities support docents in developing their knowledge and skills.

We welcome individuals from all backgrounds and perspectives to join a dynamic community dedicated to making art meaningful, accessible, and relevant for all visitors.

Applications are accepted at all times and are available for download below. Please return completed applications to arteducation@pafa.edu
