Still Life with Persimmons, Satsuma and Ginger Jar

Susan Macdowell Eakins

Susan's interest in still life is documented as early as 1879, the year in which she exhibited a work entitled "Fruit" in the First Annual of the Philadelphia Society of Artists. Better known and documented are her works in this vein from the 1920s. Many of her still life paintings, including this one, feature elements that refer to her interest in Japanese art.
