Female Nude, Standing with Right Arm Raised

Susan Macdowell Eakins

This work, one of a suite of three late figure studies, demonstrates the persistence of Susan Eakin's belief in her husband's curriculum and his working method (see also 1985.68.39.12 and .10). The emphasis in this suite, probably painted in the 1930s, is on the curving, sculptural forms and negative spaces created by the models' poses, particularly in their raised arms ands slightly exaggerated contrapposto poses.
