Composite image with two photographs: Left is an archival black and white photo of John Rhoden standing outside by his large wooden sculptures; second photo is a portrait of Detty Permanasari, an Indonesian traditional dancer. She is posing in the medium of S. Broad St. in Philadelphia.

Modero, an Indonesian traditional dance group based in South Philadelphia, will lead us in an international experience of Determined To Be: The Sculpture of John Rhoden. Sinta Penyami Storms and Detty Permanasari, Modero's master artists, will help us connect to the culture and history of Indonesia, where John Rhoden spent two formative years of his artistic career. All ages are invited to experience an immersive hour enjoying Indonesian culture, history, and traditional dance amidst the magnificent sculptures of John Rhoden.

Museum admission is included in the registration. Seats are limited.

Modero started as a community dance group, then with a passion of bringing the community together, Modero’s focus is now traditional dance, food and quality events. Modero strives to be as inclusive as we can to support our Indonesian community in South Philly.

Image Composite: Black and white photograph of John Rhoden posing with his sculptures, including The Offering, Abstraction I, and Form in Figure, in Indonesia, John Rhoden Papers; and portrait of Detty Permanasari of Modero.
