Iconic Inspiration: A Cast Hall Tour
Benjamin West wrote that casts of Greek and Roman sculptures were necessary “to instruct not only the mind of the student in what is excellent in art—but that should equally instruct the eye and judgment of the public to know and properly appreciate excellence when it is produced”. Begin with an examination of Benjamin West’s iconic Death on a Pale Horse in the galleries, and continue to the Cast Hall for exclusive access and exploration of classical casts acquired by PAFA at West’s own urging.
