The Dina Wind Lecture Series featuring Judy Pfaff
Philadelphia Sculptors returns to PAFA with the Dina Wind Lecture Series featuring noted installation artist Judy Pfaff. Entitled Judy Pfaff Full Circle, the artist will lecture on her career of work and the development of her practice.
Best known for her sculptural and architectural installations, Judy Pfaff creates dynamic, immersive environments that merge painting and sculpture through the use of innovative materials and processes. Born in London, England, Judy Pfaff received a BFA from Washington University, Saint Louis (1971), and an MFA from Yale University (1973). She has been the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, including the Academy Member Fellowship, American Academy of Arts & Sciences (2013); Anonymous Was A Woman Award (2013); MacArthur Fellowship (2004); Guggenheim Fellowship (1983); National Endowment for the Arts grants (1979, 1986); member, American Academy of Arts and Letters. Pfaff has had numerous solo exhibitions and group shows in major galleries and museums in the United States and abroad throughout her career as well as commissions. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Brooklyn Museum of Art, Detroit Institute of Arts, and others.
The Dina Wind Lecture Series is a new program of annual lectures created in honor of Dina Wind, a Philadelphia Sculptors Board member who passed away in late 2014. An artist, philanthropist and vigorous promoter of the arts, Dina left a large legacy to the art world, including her gift to Philadelphia Sculptors. This program was made possible because of her generosity and the active support of her husband Jerry and sons John and Lee. Dina Wind’s estate is represented by the Bridgette Mayer Gallery in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia Sculptors is a non profit professional organization of sculptors in the Philadelphia region that is affiliated with the International Sculpture Center. Incorporated in 1997, its mission is to promote contemporary sculpture and serve as an advocate for sculptors by expanding public awareness of the role and value of sculpture within our culture. Since its inception, it has organized numerous indoor and outdoor group exhibitions at a wide range of venues and has sponsored programs, conferences, workshops and performances.
