"Awakened In You" exhibition co-curator Sarah Spencer discusses the legacy of Dr. Clayton and the artists in her collection in this Art At Noon talk.

As an educator and arts advocate, Dr. Constance E. Clayton implemented her platform to further educational opportunities for students and to highlight African American artists and their contributions to the wider scope of American art history. Dr. Clayton committed herself to further the presence of artists and scholars of color within art institutions such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and now, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts through the generous gift of seventy-six works artworks by African American artists from the nineteenth to twentieth century that make up the heart of our current exhibition, "Awakened In You": The Collection of Dr. Constance E. Clayton.
