The Artist's Garden: Opening Preview Reception
Focused on the period 1887-1920, The Artist’s Garden tells the intertwining stories of American artists, Impressionism, and the growing popularity of gardening as amiddle-class leisure pursuit at the turn of the twentieth century. Through the exhibition of diverse fine art and material culture, including paintings, sculpture, books, and stained glass, The Artist’s Garden will lead visitors to discover how the horticultural and visual arts in Philadelphia were manifestations of an emerging national Progressive era middle-class American identity.
