Photographing & Digitizing Work

Artwork Digitization Service

The PAFA Library offers a range of professional services to digitize, photograph, and edit artwork, documents, and archival materials. We work closely with the Archives to maintain museum-level standards of document handling, imaging, and reproduction.

All services are currently drop-off only, with a two-week turnaround time. Prepayment is required. To get started, submit a request using the link above, or contact us for assistance initiating your project.

Scanning Services

Our scanning service is designed for high-quality reproductions of artwork, photographs, documents, negatives, and more. We use Epson scanners for precise color and detail reproduction.

Ideal for:

  • Flat works such as drawings, prints, and photographs

  • Paper-based materials including letters, manuscripts, and small-format documents

  • Film negatives and transparencies (depending on condition)

Note: Scanning suitability depends on the material’s size and fragility—photography may be a better option for delicate or textured works.

Artwork Digitization

Our artwork digitization service offers professional photography for both 2-D and 3-D works, including paintings, prints, sculptures, ceramics, and more. Using a Hasselblad H4D-50 Medium Format camera, we produce 16-bit images with a 50MP, 49.1 × 36.7 mm CCD sensor, ensuring accurate lighting, color fidelity, and exceptional detail.

We also offer multi-shot, focus-stacked imaging for three-dimensional pieces, enhancing depth and sharpness throughout the image.

Ideal for:

  • 2-D works (paintings, prints, drawings, photographs)

  • 3-D works (sculpture, ceramics, small objects)

  • Archival or conservation documentation

  • Exhibition and publication photography

Imaging & Editing Services

Our imaging services include color correction, retouching, dust removal, cropping, resizing, and proofing. We also provide graphic design support and offer one-on-one consultation to ensure your digital files meet your project’s needs.

Ideal for:

  • Artists and researchers preparing files for print or web publication

  • Archival digitization projects requiring consistent image quality

  • Institutions or individuals seeking color-matched reproductions
