Untitled
George Tooker
This drawing, made after the painting, "Government Bureau' (1956; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York) shows three figures sitting in cells and partially concealed behind glass partitions. The figures are nearly identical and bear despairing, pained expressions on their faces-something Tooker skillfully conveyed only through the eyes. The repetition of their heads is picked up by the opening in the glass partitions and by the spherical lamps hanging from the ceiling.
