Study for "Waiting Room II" (2#)
George Tooker
This drawing is a study for one of Tooker's major paintings, 'Waiting Room II' (1982) which measures 19 x 37" and is in a private collection. It depicts a figure group from the lower left-hand side of the picture. This group consists of a man flanked by two children, one who huddles close to his left side and another who is asleep at his right. The man holds a bowl in his right hand and is hoping for charity donations. His face bears an exhausted, sickly and mournful expression.
