Things with Wings/Things with Wings (Flightless)

Mia Rosenthal

This drawing consists of two parts-a large sheet installed above a much smaller one that is hung close to the floor. The subject of each is 'things with wings'. On top, four irregular columns of varying height and width swarm with thinly drawn and labeled objects and animals that can take to the air and fly. At bottom, a smaller accumulation of overlapping birds that do not have the ability to fly remain grounded and entangled. The drawing on top includes military and commercial aircraft, bats, owls and birds, moths, butterflies and other insects. Below Rosenthal has included penguins, an ostrich, grasshopper, emu and a machine labeled 'ornithopter'.
