Soundsuit #26
Nick Cave
"Soundsuit #26" is one of a number of costume/ sculptures created by Cave in 2003-4. It follows in the development from dance, to performance costumes, to stand-alone sculpture/ installation object. It is a larger manifestation of face-masks and decorative headdresses that Cave created in the late 1990s made of natural fibers, found objects and human hair. "Soundsuit #26" has become more sophisticated in terms of ideas and materials. The craftsmanship has become more accomplished and can be admired simply as a decorative object, as well as a cultural statement.
