Patch Self-Portrait with Small Pictures
John F. Peto
A self-portrait of the artist as a young man hangs from a nail in the center of a wooden green door. Surrounding the self-portrait are six unstretched paintings, also hanging on nails, that represent: a landscape, a seascape with a ferry and sailing boats, a portrait of a dog, a still life with apples, a still life with a man's drinking mug and pipe, and a still life with books and inkwell. Also included in the painting are books, an old newsprint article and a torn musical score.
