The Landing of the Pilgrims

Michele Felice Cornè

An immigrant from Europe, Cornè arrived in Salem, Massachusetts in 1800 and became a specialist in “discovery” themes in American history, including the voyage of Columbus. He based this painting of the arrival of English settlers at Plymouth Rock on a print, which descendants of the Puritans had commissioned in celebration of the 180th anniversary of the landing.
