Crucifixion

John Rhoden

This bronze crucifixion figure was likely sculpted in Rome. An archival photo of this sculpture was provided to PAFA by the Archives at the American Academy in Rome in advance of their exhibition on academic approaches to the body by American Academy of Rome artists. This piece, in which a near-skeletal geometric male figure with oversized hands and outstretched arms extend over long legs joined at the feet, is an example of Rhoden’s approach to iconography, and to abstract figuration.
