Betsy Ross's House

Betsy Ross's House

Frederick Goodrich Robbins

Robbins, an Academy student from 1922 to 1927, may have received some instruction from Daniel Garber and Hugh Breckenridge, both talented etchers who were on faculty at the time. This work, reminiscent of Pennell's etching of historic sites in "Old Germantown," celebrates the historic character of the city. Robbin's work shares with Pennell's a picturesque and nostalgic tone--telling the story of the nation's history through the biography of its participants.
