Bacchanale
Beatrice Fenton
In "Bacchanale," a satyr, adorned with grape leaves, grasps the arms of nymph and pulls her towards him in a graceful arc. the carefully modulated bodies are in sharp contrast to the sketchy facial features. Fenton' best-known body of work is a series of fanciful fountains and garden figures of which this sculpture was part of. It never came to fruition perhaps because of its complexity to cast or its erotic subject matter.
