After the Show
Henry Clarence Pitz
Pitz was an exceptionally talented draftsman and, in this work, also revealed his ability to delicately layer planar washes of color to create a highly structured yet fluid composition. Clearly indebted to Cézanne and the early American modernist Charles Demuth, Pitz was consummate in his ability to meld cubist-inspired modes of representation with a traditional focus on the figure.
