Instructor Stuart Shils with his paintings

Join artist and teacher Stuart Shils for this recalibrated version of his annual outdoor drawing class—taking it now from the streets of Philadelphia to reframe the ordinary within your own home.  Begin each day with a slide talk exploring ways of looking out into the ordinary visual world to construct a coherent and particular response.

Move through a variety of guided, interactive drawing exercises to analyze how you are seeing what you see, acquiring tools to locate yourself visually in any setting, and to understand the drawing surface as a dynamic visual playing field. Instruction will be with graphite and simple collage supplemented by guided conversational time with Stuart, enabling participants to discuss and digest the course content, individually and as a group.

Includes a 30-minute private, post-workshop conversation with each participant at a time that works for them.
