Merge Visible: Opening Reception
Merge Visible
PAFA’s unique student body is an artistic powerhouse, churning out a myriad of diverse works. Merge Visible is the blending of four distinct visions — four student-curated group exhibitions that highlight our desire to merge our interests and continue the tradition of interdisciplinary engagement here at the Academy.
Pestilence
Combining the visual traditions of Art Nouveau, Postmodern culture and the Book of Revelation, Pestilence is a ten-foot high indictment of the four preeminent social ills threatening American society, embodied in the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse combined with Alphonse Mucha’s Four Seasons. War, Famine, Death, and Pestilence tower over the viewer in this installation that manipulates light and color to evoke stained glass windows. Viewable from the 5th-floor lobby of the Samuel H. Hamilton Building or from the ground from Cherry and Race streets.
The Gap
An exhibition designed to give the viewer insight into the journey of artists, The Gap highlights the growth, changes, and pains every creative person has to go through to find their voice. On display will be two juxtaposing pieces from each artist showcasing the creative detours they made from the start of their artistic adventure until now.
Red
This exhibition explores the way folktales speak to many different people in very personal ways, weaving in and out of different cultures and eras. Each scene from the story is illustrated by a different artist in their own style, in a medium of their choice, and in a setting that relates to their artistic interests and background.
Attrib -h _pafa.exe
This exhibition is a celebration of advances in technology and an exploration of the ways in which all members of the PAFA community use them to produce art. It articulates how PAFA students are applying their traditional training to new art media. Privileging a kind of work not typically shown at PAFA, to bring the “hidden attributes” of PAFA into the light.
