Joseph Sweeney received a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts) and an MFA from Pennsylvania State University. A landscape painter living in Ardmore, PA, he teaches at the University of the Arts, Wayne Art Center, Woodmere Art Museum and Yellow Springs Studio. 

Sweeney has earned numerous awards for his work from the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, the Philadelphia Watercolor Club and the Philadelphia Sketch Club. His work has been included in the traveling Art in Embassies program, through the US Department of State, where it has made its way to countries around the world. He is represented by Gross McCleaf Gallery in Philadelphia, Gallery 71 in New York, Newman & Saunders Gallery in Wayne, PA, and Somerville Manning Gallery in Greenville, DE. His work is included in many public and private institutions, collections and museums.

Sweeney teaches Drawing, Painting and Landscape in the PAFA Continuing Education program.
