PAFA Welcomes Two New Members To its Board of Trustees

PHILADELPHIA (July 10, 2017) - The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) is pleased to announce two new members of its Board of Trustees, who were elected during PAFA's June Board Meeting.

PAFA Board Chair Kevin F. Donohoe says, "Our newest additions to the Board embody PAFA's spirit of community and bring to the table a level of expertise, energy, and leadership that are exceptionally suited to our mission of promoting the transformative power of art and art making. We are delighted to welcome these exceptional individuals to PAFA." 
The new trustees are:

JOHN M. HORSEMAN is Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer of The Horseman Group, a financial planning services organization based in St. Louis. Missouri. Mr. Horseman and his wife, Susan, have been lenders to PAFA's World War I and American Art and Peter Blume: Nature and Metamorphosis exhibitions, as well as the Subversion and Surrealism in the Art of Honore Sharrer exhibition now on view. Mr. Horseman also is a collector of the work of PAFA students and has established an Annual Student Exhibition purchase prize for his foundation collection.

Mr. and Mrs. Horseman previously established The John and Susan Horseman Collection of American Art, which celebrates the breadth of American art and experience in the first half of the 20th century and preserves the legacy of numerous, sometimes under-recognized American artists. The Horsemans are dedicated advocates for art education, and believers in the importance of sharing art with future generations. Mr. Horseman has served as Vice President, Board of Trustees, Saint Louis Museum of Art; and Trustee, Dixon Gallery and Gardens, Memphis, Tennessee. Mrs. Horseman has served since 2009 on the Friends of the Board, Saint Louis Museum of Art. In 2014, the Columbus Museum of Art exhibited Modern Dialect: American Paintings from the John and Susan Horseman Collection.

WALTER "BUCK" W. BUCKLEY III is Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board, Actua (formerly ICG and Internet Capital Group). Prior to founding Internet Capital Group in 1996, Mr. Buckley served as Vice President of acquisitions for Safeguard Scientifics Inc. He led many of Safeguard's investments through the mid-1990s, including Diamond Technology, ChromoVision and Video Server. Before Safeguard, Mr. Buckley was President and Co-Founder of Centralized Management Systems Inc., a medical supply company. Previously, he spent three years at CoreStates in the commercial lending group.

Mr. Buckley and his wife, Susan, live in Wayne. They have been supporters of PAFA's Bacchanal Wine Gala and Auction and they are co-founders of Peter's Place, a nonprofit organization providing grief support services for children and their families. Mr. Buckley is Board Member and Former Chairman of Starfinder Foundation, whose mission is to enhance the personal growth of underserved youth through soccer and learning experiences that engage, inspire, and motivate. He also has served on the Board of Advisors, Carolina Entrepreneurial Initiative; Board of Visitors, Kenan-Flagler Business School at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; as a Trustee, Camp Tecumseh; and he is a Former Trustee of Episcopal Academy.
