Shobal Vail Clevenger
Clevenger's bust of Washington Allston (1779-1843), was commissioned in 1839 by the trustees of the Boston Athenaeum to recognize Allston's position as the foremost American romantic painter of his day. Little is known about the provenance of the plaster bust.
