Spice Bush Swallow Tail in Blazing Star

Walter Inglis Anderson

This watercolor was painted on Horn Island and is an example of the best of Anderson' s late works in that it combines the artist's passion for the natural subject matter of the island and his brilliantly expressive use of pattern and color. The radiating light is almost hallucinatory in its color and intensity and is representative of Anderson's lifelong fascination with light.
