Search for Truth
John W. Rhoden
Search for Truth was likely sculpted in 1953, while John Rhoden was at the American Academy in Rome. In this bronze sculpture a nude male figure stands with his legs turned out, holding his arms above his head. His right hand gestures toward the sky, palm facing up and in the left, the figure holds a mask just above his face. Rhoden sculpted at least one bronze companion to this piece where a female figure holds a mask up to the sky, although that figure wears a skirt, and is dated 1954.
