Mother and Child

Cleo Hartwig

"Mother and Child" was made soon after Hartwig studied with José de Creeft. The simplicity of the forms of the intertwined figures is reminiscent of the forms of Eskimo sculpture. The sculpture is smooth and polished except for the texture of the hair which was created with a bush hammer. The graining of the marble that runs through both figures, adds further color and visual interest.
