Raphaelle Peale
Charles Willson Peale had a penchant for naming his children after great artists of the past. His oldest son, named for the Italian Renaissance master Raphael, began his own career painting portraits in Baltimore and, following his father’s example, operating a museum. He went on to become the first professional still-life painter in America, popularizing the genre along with other members of the Peale family.
