Rights & Reproductions

Reproductions of objects in the Museum’s collections may be requested for personal, scholarly, or commercial uses. The fastest and most efficient way to submit image requests is sending a filled-out RR form to collections@pafa.org. Requests are processed in the order they are received, and staff makes every effort to respond promptly; please allow up to five business days for a response. 

Members of the media may request images to accompany media coverage of PAFA’s special exhibitions and its collection by contacting the Marketing and Communications team (marketing@pafa.org).

Please review PAFA's Permissions Terms & Conditions for Digital Assets and Reproductions. PAFA reserves the right to refuse any request and to impose such conditions as it may deem advisable in the best interest of PAFA. 

FEES - Digital Asset Fulfillment & Permissions Structure:

Total fees are comprised of two distinct parts: (1) The Digital File Fee plus (2) The Permission to Reproduce Fee.

Digital File Fees

• Existing Digital Image File Fee: 
  • Non-profit $50.00 
  • Commercial $100.00
     
• New Digital Photography Fee: 
  • $200.00–$500.00 (depending on object size and capture requirements)
     
• Rush Fee: 
  • Non-profit $100.00
  • Commercial $150.00

Permission to Reproduce Fees:

• These fees vary and are determined based on the project specifics provided in your request. Key factors include print run, language, distribution territory, print size/location, and publication type.

In order for the Museum to process an order, a signed copy of the agreement must be returned and the invoice paid in full. All fees are subject to change without notice.

Third-Party Copyright Notice:

The Museum grants permission and license solely to the extent of its physical and digital asset ownership rights. Certain works in the collection remain under active copyright by third parties (artists, estates, or representatives). PAFA does not hold underlying copyright for all works; the responsibility for ascertaining whether copyright or other rights exist and for obtaining all necessary clearances from third-party rights holders remains solely with the requester. PAFA reserves the right to request proof of such clearances prior to releasing high-resolution master files.

How to Submit a Request:

To request high-resolution images, please download and complete the Digital Asset Use & File Delivery Form, then submit it via email to collections@pafa.org. Please do not sign the document or check agreement boxes yet; a staff member will review your project scope, then provide an estimated costs, and guide you through final authorization.
