The Soul Is the Body of the Spirit, an abstract painting by Moe Brooker

In this special Art at Noon PAFA is honoring the life and work of Moe Brooker. Scholar Dr. Nikki A. Greene, Associate Professor of Art at Wellesley College, will share her insights into this important artist and PAFA alum.

Brooker’s Philadelphia-based upbringing, PAFA training, and, most importantly for him, his Christian faith allowed him access to a wide range of artistic and cultural influences from Henry Ossawa Tanner to Black women’s church hats to the jazz experimentation of Charlie Parker. His abstract paintings represent expressions of the divine that reflect his dynamism as an artist, teacher, and community leader in Philadelphia and beyond.

Join us for a celebration of the beloved artist.
