I'm the Tallest

Eastman Johnson

Two girls are seen back-to-back measuring their height to see who is tallest. The blonde girl on the left is clearly larger in girth, and stretches her body to prove she is indeed taller. She wears a brown dress with ruffles at the bottom, fancy buttons at the cuff and red tights. The brunette on the right looks out at the viewer with a slightly mischievous smile. Her simple grey dress is trimmed with red accents. The contrast in children's clothing implies different social classes of the two friends. The outdoor scene is set in a simplified landscape.
