"Gin Song" is a charcoal drawing of an African-American woman wearing a long-sleeved, full length dress sitting in a wooden chair that is drawn freehand directly on an old wooden panel that is distressed and aged. The artist has added several found objects to the tableau, including a saxophone, and various sized teacups, some of which are attached to the wood, while other cups occupy a space on the floor in front of the panel. The drawing image is taken from an anonymous early 20th-century photograph, and the work clearly references jazz music and the Blues.
