Amen Corner

Benny Andrews

An ardent political activist, Benny Andrews often relied on caricature and humor to comment on the struggles and exploitation of African Americans. Typical of his works during the 1980s and 90s, this print employs exaggerated body language and facial expressions to convey Andrews’s opinion of religious leaders and converts. Through minimal use of line and color, he reveals the powerful sway a Christian orator holds over his followers.
