New Horizons: Recent Contemporary Acquisitions

Exhibition Info
Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building
Curated by
Leah Triplett, Curator of Contemporary Art
This exhibition features thirteen contemporary works recently acquired by PAFA that redefine American art through innovative materials and hybrid techniques. From abstraction to assemblage, these artists expand traditional genres while reflecting on modern life in the 21st century.

The works—spanning painting, printmaking, collage, and craft—signal new, hybridized approaches to artmaking. Materials such as felt, fabric, and ceramics are used to reimagine portraiture, while abstraction and assemblage breathe life into genre and landscape painting.

A dynamic use of formalism to address, critique, or meditate on contemporary social life defines this grouping. Each artist engages with tradition in a way that opens up new possibilities for expressing everyday experience today. Together, these acquisitions demonstrate PAFA's continued dedication to collecting works that expand our understanding of the past, present, and future of American art.
