Join Rachel Middleman, Associate Professor of Art History at California State University, Chico, for a closer look at how Joan Semmel’s recent paintings of the aging female body confront a contemporary society that fetishizes youth. These vibrant works extend and transform her longtime practice of using her own nude image to challenge visual representations of women in art and popular culture.
A conversation led by Curator of Contemporary Art Jodi Throckmorton will follow on the intersections of aging, feminism, and art.
