Family Arts Academy workshops take place Sundays from 2-4 p.m. in PAFA’s Historic Landmark Building.
Workshops are FREE for all participants.
Family Arts Academy aims to strengthen initiatives in family development and art education. Whatever shape your family takes, you are welcome to learn about, create and celebrate art with us. 2 One Book One Family: It’s family story time! Enjoy a reading of The Librarian of Basra, a companion book to this year's One Book, One Philadelphia selection, The Yellow Birds, and create a paper art project based on this great story of courage and strength.
9 Mask Making: Travel the world through different mask-making traditions, and bring an imaginary creature or your own alter ego to life with a painted paper mask.
16 Dance and Draw: Enjoy a ballet performance by International Ballet Classique, and create an experimental movement-based drawing using your own feet.
23 Art of the New Deal: Learn about the collages of Romare Bearden, featured in the exhibition Art for Society’s Sake: The WPA and its Legacy. Think about how art can be a tool for change and create a collage based on themes important to you and your family.
30 Landscape Photo Collages: Dig deep into your imagination to create a surreal idea and image. Include yourself in a whimsical dreamscape collage using paint and photographic images.
6 Flower Garlands and Bouquets: Transform everyday materials like coffee filters and tissue paper into fabulous patterned and painted flowers. Create bouquets or garlands to make a beautiful Mother’s Day gift.
13 Spoils of the Hunt: Go hunting in the galleries to find your favorite animal in a painting or sculpture from PAFA’s collection. Create a 3D animal head sculpture to take home. Family Gallery Tour today at 1pm! Register here.
20 Easter — No workshop
27 Let’s Chalk!: Try your hand at making brightly colored sidewalk chalk. Celebrate the excitement of spring by making large-scale temporary chalk murals outside (weather permitting).
