The Violet Oakley Restrike Project

Violet Oakley (1874-1961) was a PAFA student and faculty member. In 1906, she completed 13 murals for the Governor's Reception Room at the State Capitol in Harrisburg; later she produced murals in both the Pennsylvania Senate chamber and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court Room.

In the book “The Holy Experiment Our Heritage From William Penn,” she presents her drawings for those murals in the form of photoengraving prints. PAFA's museum holds the matrix for the image of George Washington Marching Through Philadelphia, of which PAFA PRESS produced an edition of 150 patron prints.
