A Diverse, Dedicated Community of Artists

The graduate program offers many exciting opportunities to enhance students’ personal and professional development outside of the studio and classroom.

Students can explore art as a career path through the Graduate Teaching Assistantship program or the After-School Studio Arts program for high school students.

There are also opportunities to submit artwork to exhibitions and assist in the student-run Gallery 8 and the museum’s Gallery 128. Second-year graduate students participate in The Fourth Wall, a mock version of the often private juried-selection process. Recent jury panelists include Alex Baker, Naomi Beckwith, Josephine Halvorson, Matthew Higgs, Dona Nelson and Adam Pendleton.

Students can also find opportunities for leadership development through the Graduate Student Association, Student Services leadership positions and student employment.

Workshops, artist lectures and critiques, as well as, galley and museum openings, and special events take place throughout the campus on a regular basis. Highlights include the graduate student-run Visiting Artists Program, First Friday meetups, and programming by PAFA's own Cinema Society.

PAFA’s open and inclusive community of students, alumni, faculty and staff nurtures the growth of students as they face the challenges of a graduate education.
