Completing the application form is the first step to admission to PAFA. Graduate applicants can apply to the MFA, Low-Res MFA, or Post-Bacc programs using PAFA's Online Application, which can be found here.
A non-refundable application fee of $60 is required before submitting your application. If you have any questions, please contact your Admissions Counselor directly, or email The Office of Admissions.
Applicants must submit 20 images of their best recent work. Selectivity and proper presentation is crucial when preparing a portfolio. PAFA has created guidelines (see below), but it is up to each applicant to choose the works that best exemplify their skills, concepts, and ambition. Applicants should upload their images directly to SlideRoom.
When uploading your work, please include the title, medium, size, and year of each piece of work. SlideRoom will prompt you to fill this information out as you go along.
Statement of Purpose
Students should be able to communicate clearly about their artwork and educational pursuits. Statements should be one to two double-spaced typed pages and can be uploaded prior to submitting your application or through the Self-Service Center. Answer the prompt:
- Outline your artistic goals and interests in pursuing graduate studies at PAFA.
Letters of Recommendation
We require two letters of recommendation on behalf of each applicant. These letters should come from individuals who are familiar with your abilities, such as teachers, mentors, guidance counselors, and employers. Applicants can send requests to their recommenders through their Self-Service Center.
Official transcripts, which convey academic history and serve as proof of eligibility, are required. Transcripts must be sent directly from the applicant's school to be considered official. PAFA accepts electronic transcripts via Parchment, Naviance, eSCRIP-SAFE, Student Clearing House, and other verified transcript servicers. Hardcopy transcripts should be mailed to PAFA's Office of Admissions.
- MFA, Low-Res MFA, and Post-Bacc applicants must provide proof of their bachelor’s degree.
- Currently enrolled applicants should submit official transcripts with their courses in progress and official, final transcripts upon graduation.
Contact the Office of Admissions with any questions about transcript requirements.
Submitting a resume is an optional, but helpful, way to describe life experiences, exhibition history, and publications. A resume may be especially helpful for applicants who have been out of school for some time. Resumes can be submitted online through SlideRoom.
TOEFL or IELTS Scores (International Applicants Only)
International applicants who do not have English as a first language must submit official TOEFL or IELTS scores. Visit our International Students page for more information on PAFA’s language requirements.
