Instructor: Jane Irish
All Levels Welcome
Invigorate your painting practice under the energetic and challenging direction of Philadelphia-based master artist Jane Irish! Experience alla prima painting with a fresh focus on mark, memory, and touch through focused exercises and experimentation. On day one, work from Asian and Latin American ceramic painting, Abstract Expressionism, and artists including Fragonard, Hals and Goya, to discover how brush strokes have a memory of style, and to consider painting “in front of” the picture plane. On day two, learn to infuse liveliness in your painting from the surface forward while creating works from life in the historic cast hall and studios, with dancers as models integrated among the sculptures. Experiment with various painting grounds in either gouache or oil, promoting the ability to wipe out and redo. Stimulating discussions, critiques and additional exercises will further enhance the workshop experience.
