In this work, the artist is investigating archetypal objects - a cylinder, sphere, and cone and precariously stacking one on top of one another. The objects resemble metal cages or netted material-and may or may not exist in reality. Working with graphite on paper in a process that is both additive and subtractive, the artist draws, erases, and re-draws; abrades the paper; and adds images by making rubbings from woodblocks that create frottage (trace rubbed) elements with an altogether different quality than wholly invented marks.
