With over 200 years of experience of training artists, PAFA offers a world-class professional fine arts education.

PAFA’s School of Fine Arts offers a world-class professional education that focuses exclusively on the success of the emerging fine artist. With over 200 years of experience of training artists, we nurture the artistic development of our students. Our priority is the quality, comprehensiveness, and relevance of a fine arts education to develop and pursue an artistic vision wherever it may lead.

Situated on the Eastern seaboard, Philadelphia is the 6th largest city in the United States and sits comfortably between New York City and Washington, D.C. Walkable and affordable, Philadelphia has unlimited resources for young and emerging artists. With 80 colleges and universities, the city has a strong student community—there's never been a more exciting time to be a student in Philadelphia.

Living in a city where the old meets the new means having everything at your fingertips. Anything you could want in a college campus can be found in our city and most likely within walking distance from PAFA. As a city made up of individual neighborhoods, it doesn’t take long to find your way and know where to go to find exactly what you’re looking for. With galleries, museums, and artist-run spaces sprinkled all over the city—not to mention more public art than any other city in the U.S.—all concentrated just blocks from PAFA’s campus, you’ll never go far without networking opportunities and culture.

PAFA's small size includes a close-knit and diverse community of students, faculty, and staff. Each student brings a unique perspective to our campus, coming from all over the United States and the world. At the heart of each student is a passion for the fine arts and the ability to take their work with seriousness and maturity. Our world-class facilities and exhibition spaces give you the physical tools to excel, and all fourth-year students receive their own personal studio.

The student-faculty ratio of 7:1 allows each student a working relationship with each of their teachers. Each faculty member at PAFA is a practicing artist who is devoted to the education of the next generation of fine artists. They prioritize student growth, taking the time to mentor each student on a one-on-one basis. These relationships foster an environment in which each student has a strong sense of voice in their artwork and the ability to think critically and problem-solve.

Opportunities to network and mingle with fellow artists from the first day of orientation welcome students into the PAFA family as soon as they start. Each year, the Annual Student Exhibition (ASE) offers students the opportunity to curate, install, and sell their own works in PAFA's museum galleries. The ASE is a long-standing PAFA tradition and one of the most celebrated student group shows in the country.

PAFA's career development programs provide the skills, information, and experiences to confidently embrace the world before stepping beyond the school. PAFA graduates become part of a professional network of over 7,000 alumni who support, guide, and mentor each other, as well as future generations of students.
