Bacchanal
The Art of the Vine
Saturday, November 12, 2011

For the thirteenth consecutive year, on November 12, 2011, PAFA will host the Bacchanal Wine Gala and Auction. With a 350-guest capacity, the event features internationally distinguished winemakers and celebrity chefs. Bacchanal 2011, The Art of the Vine, will feature the finest wines from around the world. Bacchanal was cited in 2010 by Haute Living Magazine as one of the "Five Best Galas in Philadelphia".

Since Bacchanal’s inception, the event has raised over $3 million to help fund PAFA’s student scholarships and education programs. Originating in 1999, Bacchanal is recognized as a premier wine and auction event in the Philadelphia region and has garnered a national reputation.

Bacchanal will include wine tastings, silent and live auctions of unique items and travel destinations, a gourmet dinner with guest celebrity chef and dancing.  Hugh Hildesley of Sotheby’s, New York will be the auctioneer for the evening.

The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Academy’s prestigious Thomas Jefferson Award to this year’s honoree, Patrick J. Stapleton III, Chairman of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.

Throughout the week preceding and after the Bacchanal 2011 gala, a series of exclusive gourmet winemaker dinners will take place in private homes. To date, the following chefs will be creating their own unique menus to pair with internationally known wines at these dinners: Chef Derek Davis (Derek’s) with wines from W J Deutsch & Sons, LTD; Chef Patrick Feury (Nectar) with wines from Ste. Michelle Wine Estates; Chef Suzanna Foo (Suzanna Foo Gourmet Kitchen) with wines from Sonoma-Cutrer; Chef Jose Garces (Garces Restaurant Group) with wines from Folio Partners; Chef Rafael Gonzalez (Four Seasons) with wines from Trinchero Family Estate Wines; Chef David Jansen (Duffy’s Catering) with wines from Maison Louis Latour and Chef Andrew Masciangelo (Savona) with wines from Col d’Orcia, Italy and Erasmo, Chile.

Bacchanal is PAFA’s flagship wine affair, raising up to $500,000 annually to support student scholarships and education programs. PAFA is authorized to host Bacchanal by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and is generously supported by The Haverford Trust Company, this year’s presenting sponsor. Bacchanal is co-chaired by June Marshall Smith and Donald R. Caldwell.
