6 1/4" x 8" reverse-painted glass frame in a William Morris-inspired Acanthus design
William Morris started designing wallpaper fabrics in 1862 though he did not start printing and selling them until 1864. Every design has a tribute to plants or flowers delicately woven around and in between themselves to create a unique and beautiful pattern. Morris’ designs were quickly admired throughout the artist industry and by those who appreciate art.
The ‘Acanthus’ wallpaper can be credited to George Gilbert ‘Indian’ Scott, a designer who worked closely with Morris. It shows a complex swirling of leaves and shading that create depth in the image.
