PAFA's "Stewardson Prize for Sculpture", was established in 1899 by Edmund Stewardson. We were pleased to once again present this annual figure modeling competition. It is open to students from five east coast art academies plus PAFA, and stresses the importance of the figure in contemporary sculpture. The competition brings together outstandingly talented artists for a three-day, mutually respectful exchange of ideas and collegial interchange. Lasting friendships and memories are formed in the clay of this project.
This year’s competition was attended by 30 exceptionally talented students. Our judge, sculptor Arlene Love, awarded First Prize to Corey Fox a 4th year PAFA student and sculpture major. Along with the cash prize, two copies of Fox’s sculpture will be cast. One will remain at PAFA and become part of our on-going collection of Stewardson winners. The second is presented to the artist. Second Prize was given to PAFA second year student and drawing major, Joan Turner. Third prize was awarded to New York Academy of Art, masters student, sculpture major, Yi Cao.
