IN 623E The Academy in Your Classroom
Charles Muldowney
The teaching philosophy at PAFA, emphasizing a foundation in observational drawing and technical knowledge, has stood the test of time. Learn to apply the Academy teaching model to the contemporary high school setting, and give your students an artistic edge! Topics include cast drawing, perspective, portrait sculpture, painting technique, copying masterworks, and printmaking basics. Visit the Academy museum, the historic Cast Hall, and hidden treasures of the vaults. Get extensive resources for educators including project instructions, handouts, curriculum guides, websites, catalogues, and lesson plans.

PR 612E Printmaking
Lisa Hamilton
Ideal for artists, educators or anyone interested in learning about printmaking. Low technical processes including monotypes, Xerox lithography, relief, collograph, and chine colle will introduce beginning and advanced students to a variety of techniques, all of which can be applied in the classroom and studio. Students will explore hand-printing, press printing, working in black and white and color. Instruction will include PAFA museum vaults to privately view prints by American artists from the museum’s vast collection of works on paper, as well as handouts with age appropriate materials, lesson plan suggestions, and an overview of important printmaking history.

IN 825E Museums as a Resource for Teaching and Learning
Refresh yourself!
Spend a fun, invigorating and informative week with experienced educators Susan Rodriguez and Al Gury exploring museums as a resource for teaching and learning. K-12 educators of all disciplines as well as art teachers will benefit from this intensive course. Examine themes of diversity, heritage and literacy through the richly multicultural museum collections of Philadelphia including PAFA, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the African American Museum of Philadelphia, Rosenbach Museum and more. Learn about museums’ contribution to our artistic inheritance, and explore the ways in which the arts can be incorporated into lessons across disciplines. Meet a famous children’s book illustrator, talk with museum curators and educators, and view rarely-seen works from the vaults. Complementary breakfast and gift bag included!

IN 745W5 SIX-WEEK STUDIO/CRITIQUE PROGRAM

Designed for artists and educators who desire constructive feedback on their artwork as well as the support and interaction of an artistic community. Registration confers a private studio in the Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building and critiques from a stellar ensemble of nationally and internationally known artists, including members of the Academy’s acclaimed faculty.
