Immerse yourself in a three-day intensive outdoor painting class with critically acclaimed painter, Stuart Shils. Working alla prima, Shils will demonstrate strategies for seeing nature with more perceptual discrimination and help you master your sense of color – on your palette and in your painting. Through a slideshow of master works, Shils will illuminate different artists’ approaches to working outdoors. He will emphasize the principle of perceptual unity and deepen your understanding of the language of painting and drawing.
Stuart Shils, an Academy alumnus, has painted the landscape for 27 years and has held numerous solo shows in Philadelphia, New York, Tel Aviv, Boston, San Francisco and Cork, Ireland. His work has received critical review and commentary in the New York Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer, Art in America, American Artist and many other publications. He has received numerous grants and awards including an Independence Foundation Fellowship in the Arts, a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant and an Academy Award in Art from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. An annual visiting critic at the Vermont Studio Center, he teaches painting workshops across the country and abroad.
